4 November 1942

At 9.45am the first of a seemingly endless stream of Dakotas land at Kokoda airstrip bringing a vast array of supplies, including American Jeeps, ammunition and weapons, food – fresh meat and vegetables, even chocolate.

The Diggers who gorge themselves on the rare treats soon find themselves writhing and retching as their starved stomachs reject the rich food.

Later, the Diggers of the 16th Brigade, moving down the Oivi road toward the sea, are surprised and held up by a strong enemy force. The resulting battle will be one of the biggest in the entire campaign.
